Govt to monitor Kyambogo University

The Government will closely monitor the running of Kyambogo University to ensure that management wrangles do not damage the image of the university, education minister Jessica Alupo has said.

She assured the public that the qualifications awarded by the university were not affected by the recent negative publicity experienced by the university, resulting from a row over its leadership.

“Kyambogo has lately been in the media for the wrong reasons, something that has perturbed the Government because this has tended to damage the image of the university and bring into question the integrity of the awards,” she stated.

“I would like to assure graduands who have come to receive their awards that my ministry recognizes their certifi cates,” she said. Alupo made the remarks during Kyambogo University’s 9th graduation yesterday, in which a total 6,983 graduands were awarded degrees and certifi cates.

The graduands were from the faculties of education, arts and social sciences as well as vocational studies and the graduate school.

The university chancellor, Dr. Eric Adriko, advised the graduands to be innovative and protect the image of the university.

He offered sh2m towards an endowment fund for the university’s corporate social responsibility programmes.
