Make this Christmas season more joyous

Dec 19, 2012

Christmas is a time to give. What kind act are you planning to do this Christmas? And no, extending kind gestures to those around us is not only for the well-off! Everyone can do something for another person, no matter how small the gesture is.

Christmas is a time to give. What kind act are you planning to do this Christmas? And no, extending kind gestures to those around us is not only for the well-off! Everyone can do something for another person, no matter how small the gesture is.

I recently learnt of a four-year-old boy who had a brain tumour. His parents have spent every coin on his medical bills, yet his mother is expecting another baby. Besides, she resigned her job to nurse her sick son in hospital. We can restore the hope of such families this Christmas by extending a kind hand to them.

Involve your family, including the children, as you spread the kindness. This sows a spirit of compassion in them. There are many ways you can spread good cheer this season.

1 Visit the sick in hospital Usually, many sick people in hospital have no money for food or drugs. You could take your family shopping for items that you can donate to the sick in hospital.

2 Show grandparents love

Given the many sacrifices they make for their families.
Most times grandparents do not need material things, but rather spending time with them. Remember that you are growing older each day and you will need people who love you to spend time with you.

3 Send Christmas cards and gifts to your friends and other people, who have been kind to you this year. We all need to feel appreciated and we should not take our friends for granted.

4 Remember orphans

Many times children in orphanages are forgotten. But you can turn this around. Bake a cake for them, cook a meal or even host them in your home during Christmas.

Whatever big or small act of kindness you do this Christmas; it will make Christmas a joyous moment for everyone.
