Four people perished in an accident along Soroti-Mbale Road in the eastern part of the country.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday evening when a Soroti bound taxi registration number UAS 948K got a puncture on one of its tyres and overturned several times.

The dead include a female youth councilor for Serere district, Juliet Adengo, who died at Soroti regional referral hospital.  

Others include a 19-year old senior four student of Comprehensive SS Soroti Alice Anaso, resident of Kapir Sub County died on spot. Two others were not readily identified by medical personnel both in Soroti and Kumi hospitals where the victims were rushed.

“I received four patients including the Bishop of East and Central Christian ministries Bernard Ebiau who is unconscious up to now,” Dr. Ekure of orthopedic hospital Kumi said.

In Soroti referral hospital seven people were admitted and two died according to Dr. Joseph Epodoi the surgery consultant.

“The councilor died in the processes of administering treatment while other unidentified man died upon arrival. We are still taking care of the five who are admitted,” Dr. Epodoi said.

Among the admitted include John Peter Awenu, 49, the head teacher of Bukuta Primary school in Bugiri district and his wife Victor Abong.

The accident involved a taxi reg. number UAS 948K that was heading to Soroti when it’s behind tyer burst leading it to overturn several times.

  Police mid-eastern spokesperson Juma Hasan Nyene blamed the accident to overspeeding.

“According to the information we have gathered, the driver was overspeeding. We have not arrested the driver because he is also injured,” Nyene said

The traffic officer Ngora, Charles Esimu, said the accident occurred near Koloin trading centre in Ngora district. Esimu explained that there were 15 people in the taxis <
