I am 28, my boyfriend wants sex before marriage

Oct 03, 2014

My boyfriend and I have been in an on-and-off relationship since we were about 14. But when I went away for studies, we lost touch.

The problem

My boyfriend and I have been in an on-and-off relationship since we were about 14. We both grew up in strong Christian families and there was never any thought of having sex.

When I went away for studies, we lost touch, but renewed the friendship when I returned.

Now we are talking about getting married. The problem is that I am still a virgin, and after being patient all this long, I do not want to give it up before marriage. I am now 28 years. He now says we cannot get married unless we resolve this situation.

What should I do? Some of my friends are encouraging me to give in, while others are advising me to wait.

However, my friends are sexually active, so how can I really listen to something they did not do?

Please help!

ADVICE CHICK says:

Have you really waited 28 years to disappoint yourself? What if he is testing you to see if being abroad turned you into a loose woman?

What if you have sex and the wedding does not happen? Will you ever cope? Sex is great, but never at the expense of your peace of mind. Women tend to come out of it feeling dirty and used.

You made a commitment, so keep your legs crossed. I know the world generally makes it seem like virginity is for losers, but the way I see it, you have a win-win situation.

If he is testing you, you win. If he has become a sex friend, then he is no longer the Christian brother for you, so again, you win.

Any advice for this puzzled young lady?
