It is now two weeks since 14-year-old Betty Naluwemba, a student of Mandela College School in Bweyogerere, went missing from her grandmother’s home in Bulenga. Naluwemba  was given money to go and buy sugar and bread for the family, but never returned.

Nobody knows where she is and her family is worried that their daughter could be in the hands of wrong people.
Naluwemba’s father, Ronald Musanganda, describes her as a quiet and reserved girl.

“When schools closed for the Christmas holiday on November 24, I sent her to Bulenga to her grandmother Rose Nantale. The next day, as the family was preparing breakfast, her grandmother sent her to the nearby shop and that was the last time she was seen,” narrates Musanganda.

Naluwemba’s grandmother says after preparing tea, the family  waited for Naluwemba to return in vain.
Seconds turned into minutes, minutes into hours but she did not return and yet the shop was not more than 70 meters from their home. Tired of waiting, the family went to the shop to inquire but they were told she had not been there.

They asked around other shops nearby, but nobody had seen her. Her grandmother immediately contacted Naluwemba’s father and told him about the disappearance.

“When I received the news, I immediately travelled to Bulenga to try and find my daughter. I also reported the case to the local Police but up to now, she has not yet been found,” says Musanganda.

The family has also placed a series of adverts on local radio and television stations and news papers, but nobody has come forth with information that can help them find their daughter.

“The nearest we came to getting information was when two days after she disappeared, somebody called, asking whether I knew her and when I answered in the affirmative the phone was switched off. When I called back, the person told me he wanted to work with us to help find my daughter, but I sensed it was a conman who wanted money from us,” says Musanganda.

The family has visited all their relatives’ homes and Naluwemba’s school, but nobody has seen her.
Musanganda’s biggest fear is that his daughter could have eloped with a man. He is pleading with his daughter or whoever has her to bring her back home.

“Please Naluwembe come home. You are causing us pain and anguish. I am ready to forgive you and take you back,” Musanganda pleads. He also urges anyone with information that could lead to finding Naluwemba to contact the family.
