Buyaga West MP Barnabas Tinkasiimire’s wife, Lynn Mbabazi, has been found eight days after she went missing.

Both police and family confirmed that Mbabazi is alive although she is not yet back at her parents’ home. “Our daughter is alive. She is safe but traumatised. We will issue a statement later,” said Mbabazi’s father, Amos Bakaine.

He, however, said Police would continue with investigations on the circumstances under which she disappeared.

Kampala regional Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that Mbabazi was found on Saturday.

“We have not physically seen her, her parents have not seen her, her brothers have not seen her, but intelligence reports show that she is alive,” he said.

Tinkasimire married Mbabazi in a traditional (okwanjura) ceremony in April 2012, but the two separated early this year due to marital disputes. Mbabazi has been living with her parents since then.

On September 19, Mbabazi left home for work but, did not get to office. She did not return home either. She is an employee of National Water and Sewerage Corporation. Previously, she worked with the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation.

Days before Mbabazi went missing, she had recorded a statement at the Kampala Central Police Station in relation to a dispute between her and Tinkasimire over a Toyota Nadia, car registration number UAT 762K.

Family members said after recording the statement, Mbabazi received threats to her life. She stopped driving her car for fear that she might be trailed. She resorted to special hire taxis and bodaboda.

Tinkasimiire’s mother-in-law, Mabel Bakeine, the MP for Bugangaizi in Kibaale district, told Sunday Vision before she was found that she and the entire family were devastated over Mbabazi’s disappearance.

The family had suspected Tinkasimiire.

Efforts to reach Tinkasimiire were unsuccessful as his known phone number has been unavailable for days. But he has been tweeting that he did not know where Mbabazi was since they separated. The MP had also tweeted that he would be in a religious retreat ending today.

Mbabazi’s brother, Bruce Mucunguzi, said his sister’s life changed after she had recorded a statement at CPS.

“She received death threats. I last talked with her on September 17 and she asked for prayers,” he added.

Onyango confirmed that the Police were investigating the case. He said they would summon and interrogate anybody who could have useful information related to Mbabazi’s disappearance.

Mbabazi is the daughter of MP Mabel Bakaine and businessman Amos Bakaine. She is the fourth in a family of five children.
