Three arrested over trader''s murder

The Police in Mubende district have arrested three people in connection with the murder of a trader, who was hacked to death on Saturday night.

One of the suspects, Godfrey Mutyaba, was followed by a police sniffer dog that tracked him all the way to his home at Lulamba village in Bukuya subcounty, Mubende district.

Central western regional Police spokesperson Phillip Mukasa identified the other suspects as Joseph Mayanja and Gorrette Nalubiri. He said Mutyaba and Mayanja had been transferred to Mubende Police Station, while Nalubiri
was released on Police bond.

Ronald Mutebi, a lorry driver, was brutally killed when he was attacked by his workers on Saturday at his home in Bukuya town. According to Ronald Mubiru, a brother of the deceased, Mutebi had earlier that night gone to a pub, where he met his colleague and Nalubiri, but left them there and returned home.

On Sunday morning, Mutebi’s body was found lying in a pool of blood in his house. In the same house was another victim, who was identified only as Brian, but was still alive with severe wounds. He was rushed to Bukuya Health Centre from where he was transferred to Mubende Hospital.

The Police said Mayanja, worked as a turn boy for the  lorry that Mutebi drove. Mayanja admitted that he saw Mutebi fighting with about four of his workers, but denied having been involved.

Residents blamed the incident on the increased number of youth who smoke marijuana in Bukuya town. Kamya Ssebadawo, one of the local leaders in Bukuya sub-county, asked the area leaders to co-operate with security agents in fighting insecurity in the area.

In a related incident, another man identified as John Ssekibuule, a trader in Kibalinga sub-county, was killed by unknown assailants, who waylaid him as he was returning home on Saturday night.
