KCCA to recruit 300 more employees

Ugandans who have been waiting for the recruitment of new staff at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to resume may soon be smiling.

KCCA executive director Jennifer Musisi has told this website that the authority has resumed the recruitment after receiving funds from the central government.

KCCA had halted recruitment over lack of funds, the Authority’s deputy director human resource, Richard Lule said in August when the exercise was called off.

Musisi said KCCA intends to recruit another 30% of the required KCCA employees, which translates to 300 new staff.

 The authority will have over 1000 employees at the end of the whole exercise.

Musisi made the revelation during an exclusive interview at city hall. Musisi said the Public Service Commission had embarked on the recruitment exercise.

According to the Public Service Commission’s website, interviews for the job seeks have kicked off with an aptitude test for 24 posts on November 29.

Musisi said KCCA recruited 20% of the new staff in the first phase. With the on-going recruitment of the next 30%, KCCA will be operating at 50% number of staff.

Musisi commended Public Service Commission for speeding up the recruitment. But she appealed for more vigilance in scrutinizing the applicants to ensure quality.

She noted that some of the candidates appointed by the Commission have tainted backgrounds and that it was the reason she was firing new staff over corruption.

“One of the town clerks I fired recently had been interdicted from Lukaya Town Council over corruption. The commission knew about him but went ahead and endorsed him for KCCA job,” he said.
