NSSF fulfills Cranes pledge

NATIONAL Social Security Fund yesterday fulfilled their sh16m pledge under the Uganda Cranes initiative (UCI) campaign.

UCI are looking towards raising sh200m that will finance Cranes’ future football campaigns, including the ongoing CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup in Kampala.

NSSF managing director, Richard Byarugaba presented the offer in form of a cheque to Cranes’ captain Hassan Wasswa after the team’s early training session at the Lugogo grounds.

“Thanks for the good work in the first game. We believe that you can continue and keep the trophy on home soil,” Byarugaba stated.

CSI is spearheaded by a group of fans dominated by senior media managers to supplement Federation of Uganda efforts.

Vision Group board of directors also approved a contribution of sh30m towards the  UCI Initiative.

Two weeks ago, Rwenzori came on board with an offer of 250 cartons, SMS media covered goalkeepers’ gloves and the team’s sneakers while LIFELINK Medical Center supplemented Cranes’ medical team. Sheraton Hotel offered to cater for all laundry services.

“There are millions of fans out there, and if all of them become supporters we can achieve this very easily. If 10,000 people contribute Ushs20,000 each we will hit this target within no time,” UCI chairman Robert Kabushenga pointed out two weeks ago.

Contributions by cheque should be written out to ‘New Vision Printing & Publishing Company Limited’, while cash will be received at The New Vision offices on Plot 19/21, First Street, Industrial Area.

WASH comes on board

The Uganda Cranes have also entered a partnership with WASH to promote hygiene in Uganda.

The NGO under their WASH United club yesterday visited the Uganda Cranes training ground at Lugogo and tipped them on how to keep their hygiene levels to the peak.

“We want to have healthy footballers with good water, sanitation and good hygiene with dignity. WASH is a good health practice which complements football as a universal game,” WASH United Executive Director Doreen Kabasindi Wandera explained.

WASH United was launched on 4 October 2012.
