Weightlifter Charles Sekyaya, the USPA Weightlifter of the Year has hit the mark to participate in the 2014 World Weightlifting championships in Kazakhstan due November 6-16.

A good show will also see Sekyaya brighten his chances of direct qualification for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics because the event is the first direct qualifier, according to the IWF calendar.

“IWF demands an athlete to participate in at least two qualification events to be considered for direct entry into an Olympic event.

Sekyaya will be making a second appearance if he goes to Kazakhstan because the Commonwealth Games event in London has also been categorized as a qualification event,” noted president of Uganda Weightlifting Federation Salim Musoke.

Musoke also said Sekyaya has been selected by IOC among the first group of athletes to participate in the Olympic Solidarity training at Colorado High Performance Training Centre in the US to prepare for the Olympics.
