KONGE - Shadia Katono, 11, is nursing severe injuries on the head after being beaten by her now-fugitive father. It is alleged that William Katwalo beat his daughter over stealing his sh5000.
Katono, a Primary Four pupil in Mirembe Primary School in Makindye division, Kampala, cannot see because of the injuries.
She was admitted to Mulago Hospital, but later discharged.
Her grandmother, Zaitun Nakintu, who is taking care of her, told New Vision that the incident happened on Thursday at about 1:00am at their home in Konge, Kampala.
“The father dumped her at my home in Lukuli after realising that she was in bad condition. We rushed her to a nearby clinic for treatment but the nurse referred us to Mulago Hospital for specialised treatment,” the grandmother said.
Nakintu said Katono’s parents separated when she was four years old. She has been living with the father since then.
The matter was reported to the Police and Katwalo is on the run.
A medical report from the hospital showed that the brain had not been damaged but the medical workers advised that she is taken back to the hospital after two weeks for a check-up.
