TORORO - A suspected terrorist, armed with a pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, remains in Police custody, after he was nabbed in the border town of Malaba in Tororo on Friday.

The suspect was netted by border patrol as he was crossing into Uganda from Kenya on foot through an ungazetted border route.

Tororo District Police commander Robert Katuramu identified the suspect as Farouk Museni, 45, a Kenyan national.

“He will be prosecuted as soon as investigations in the matter are completed,” Katuramu said.

The suspect, who was coming from Mombasa, reportedly confessed before security operatives that he was destined for Iganga.

“I can’t divulge the details of his mission at the moment as it will jeopardise investigations,” Katuramu said.

Security operatives said the suspect, who was in possession of luggage, is reported to have attempted to retreat when security operatives deployed along the porous border area.

Security operatives, however, managed to catch up with him after a spirited chase.

A pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered when they searched him. Sources at Police revealed the suspect had acquired the gun illegitimately.
