After a year of oblivion the Makerere 10s Rugby Tournament is back in a more appealing style.
The two-day tournament that gets underway on Saturday at Makerere has been renamed ‘Kampala Sun 10s’.
The event that was not held last year due to logistical challenges is back to life having landing sponsorship from The Kampala Sun, a popular Vision Group publication.
Nile Breweries, dubbed the No.1 Rugby Fan, and Rwenzori Water are co-sponsors.
Vision Group Head of Marketing Susan Nsibirwa, whose company also sponsors the Makerere Impis Rugby team through the XFM Brand, was delighted to be associated with the tournament.
The 20th edition of the annual invitational tournament will feature XFM Impis, D’Mark Kobs, MTN Heathens, Toyota Buffaloes, G4S Pirates, Rhinos, Sadolin Mongers and Summerkamp.
Upcountry teams; Gulu Elephants, Mbarara, Mbale Elephants and Lira Bulls will also take part as will the Rwanda and Burundi national teams too.
Defending champions Kenyan side, Mwamba will not make the trip because the tournament coincides with the Kenya Cup this weekend.
Heathens, who won the tournament in 2009 and their rivals Kobs are to renew their rivalry in the two-day tournament that will bring down the curtains on the 2012 rugby season.
Heathens, still smarting from the 13-14 defeat to Kobs in the Uganda Cup last month, will be out to avenge the defeat.
