KAMPALA - The Uganda National Examinations Board has released timetables for the 2014 PLE, UCE and UACE exams scheduled to start in October through to December.

According to the timetable, Primary Seven examinations will commence on October 31, with the briefing of candidates. A total of 11,904, pupils are set to sit this year’s PLE in the 11,506 centres across the country.

PLE candidates will sit exams on November 3 and 4.

Senior Four (UCE) candidates’ briefing is set for October 10 in the 3,006 centres across the country, with exams running up to November.

Senior Six (UACE) candidate will start exams on November 10 and end on December 2.

Draft registers have since been issued to heads of examination centres for verification. The number of students registered for this year’s examinations, especially for PLE and UCE, has increased.

The number of PLE candidates shot up by 22,434 candidates from 582,085 in 2013 to 604,519 in 2014. For UCE, the number of candidates shot up from 288,738 in 2013 to 309,899 this year.

However, A’level registered a decline in the number of candidates from 116,190 in 2013 to 109,897 candidates in 2014 in the 1,802 examination centres spread throughout the country.

The deputy executive secretary of UNEB, Dan Odong, says the board is still investigating what could have caused the reduction in the number of Senior Six candidates.

To avoid last minute disappointments, prospective candidates have been advised to contact their head teachers to confirm their registration status.

The exam body said it will arrange separate timetables for UCE examinations in 662/2 Foods and Nutrition, 665/2 IPS foods and nutrition, 672/2 Home Management, 314/1 Oral French, 309/3 German Orals and 621/3 Music Practicals, which will be conducted by visiting examiners on dates prior to October 6.

This also applies to UACE timetables for examinations in P640/3 Foods and Nutrition, P630/2 Clothing and Textiles, P330/1 Oral French, P340/4 German Orals and P620/1 Music Practicals which will also be conducted by visiting examiners on dates prior to November 14.
