The Police in Namutumba district are holding a 59-year-old man who allegedly clobbered his eight-month pregnant wife to death on Independence Day.

Namutumba district Police commander Tom Bainemugisha confirmed the arrest of Sulaiman Babi, a resident of Kavule village in Namutumba district. Babi is suspected to have killed Lucy Nabadda, 45, with whom they had six children.

Bainemugisha said Babi had a quarrel with Nabadda after she accused him of having an affair with another woman.

“When Babi returned home late on Tuesday night, Nabadda chased him away, telling him to go back to his concubine.

This sparked off a quarrel. Babi allegedly picked a club which he used to hit her on the stomach, killing her instantly,” Bainemugisha explained.

Nabadda, according to the Police, fell on her stomach and was found bleeding from her private parts.

At the scene, a tree branch with scattered fresh leaves was recovered. The Police suspect Babi used it to beat his wife with whom he had lived for the last 12 years.

Bainemugisha said the deceased’s body was taken to Iganga Hospital for a post-mortem examination. He said Babi would be charged with murder.

Meanwhile, the Police commander for the south-eastern region, Ben Mubangizi, said the region was peaceful during the independence celebrations.
