Pupils of Kitante Primary School last week received a health boost from AAR health services at their school.

Part of the free medical package included de-worming, verification of medical status, vaccination in addition to treatment of various common ailments among pupils.

 Over 120 pupils were de-wormed.

During the visit, AAR staff also planted over five fruit and shade trees at the school garden aimed at instigating the spirit of environmental nurturing and awareness creation.

A key health talk was also part of the day’s event.

The environmentally viable community activities were aimed at improving living conditions of communities and initiatives that foster a healthy environment.

Speaking during the AAR outreach, Ivan Baliboola, AAR’s public relations administrator said involving schools directly in health programmes is key.

He also observed that planting trees in schools helps inspire an environmentally conscious generation.

Kitante is the third school to benefit from the Trees for Health programme and medical treatment courtesy of AAR.

Ntinda Primary School was the first beneficiary followed by St Mary’s College, Lugazi.

The Trees for Health programme Uganda was launched in May this year at Ntinda Primary School.

The event saw children take part in planting of trees under the guidance of officials from AAR Uganda and Ntinda Primary school.

The health company is fully involved in more environmentally viable community activities.

At Kitante, AAR medical officer, Beatrice Namirembe reminded the pupils to wash their hands with clean water before and after meals, keep their fingernails clean and short, wash hands with soap after visiting the toilet, among other measures.

Namirembe said the initiative is part of a greater move towards controlling the effects of global warming which has led to a number of health concerns in society.
