Maracha boy cuts off cousin's head for sale

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy in Maracha district has reportedly killed his two-year-old cousin to sell his head. The Police named the deceased as Savior Andama from Nigo village in Oluvu sub-county.

Josephine Angucia, the Police spokesperson for West Nile, said the suspect, currently under detention, has had a troubled upbringing.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning, when Andama’s mother, Jessica Drakuru, was in the garden. She realised something was amiss when, upon return, she did not find her son.

The body was later discovered inside the house, but the head and the boy, who had stayed with the baby at home, were missing.

The boy, a P.6 dropout, was later found in Ovujo B, Oluffe sub-county, where he admitted beheading Andama. He led residents to the bush where he had hidden the head.

He said after killing his cousin, he put his head in a bag and took it to the Chongquing International Construction Company’s camp at Ovujo, intending to sell the head to the workers who are constructing the Vurra-Arua-Koboko- Oraba road.

A mob from Ovujo trading centre tried to lynch the suspect, but he was rescued by the Police.

Quoting the boy, Angucia said he cut off the head because ‘his grandmother had been telling him that if he played football on the road, strangers would cut off his head and sell it to the Chinese. When he needed money, he decided to sell Andama’s head instead’.

Angucia added that when the boy took the head to the construction site, the watchmen stopped him from entering.

He then turned back and hid it in the bush. The boy’s uncle, Jackson Kidri, was at a loss for words. The baby who was beheaded, belonged to his sister.

“This boy has been a pain. He does not live here. He visits once in a while. I once saved him from drowning and this is how he pays us?” his uncle said.

Angucia said they were keeping the boy at Koboko Police cell because Maracha was not safe. They feared the villagers would lynch him. Police is carrying out investigations.
