A primary school pupil who won a gold medal in Puerto Rico has been given a heroic welcome by his teachers, parents and colleagues.

Larry Feni, a P4 pupil at Naguru Hill Preparatory School, won a gold medal in the swimming festival dubbed ‘Special Olympics World Aquatics Sanjuan 2012’, for children with special needs.

The competition took place in Puerto Rico, Central America between September 11 and 15.

According to the school director of studies, David Mwanja, it is in the school’s programme to promote pupils’ talents and swimming is one of the co-curricular activities promoted at the school.

“Feni won the 50m free-style race and has showed our endless efforts to promote our pupils’ talents. As such we are preparing a swimming gala that will take place on October 12 at our own swimming pool,” Mwanja revealed.
