MPs on Parliament's committee on government assurances have renewed calls for the government to explain why they have not fulfilled over 52 government assurances made last year.
According to committee chairman Odonga Otto, the assurances include the operationalization of Barazas (public fora), salary increment for teachers among other public servants, release of funds to youth for skills, fight corruption, and removing Karimojong children off the streets.
"We have served the Prime minister with a letter and we hope he comes on Thursday this week and tell us how far government has gone in addressing the assurances," Otto told members yesterday.
He noted that the committee was also expecting Minister for Karamoja affairs Janet Museveni to explain how far government has gone regarding development in Karamoja region.
Most of the assurances, he noted, were made on the floor of parliament but they have remained unfulfilled which he urged government to consider honoring all its assurances.
"After interfacing with concerned ministries, regarding the assurances, we shall visit region by region starting with west, central and the East to verify specific issues," Otto stated.
The committee recently issued a report indicating different unfulfilled government assurances under the office of the prime minister and other strategic ministries.
