Many factors point at Uganda’s historical 50 years of independence; a moment, which has redefined her political, economic and social boundaries since the colonial era.

As a nation, Uganda has demonstrated a sense of forward motion to achieving her national objectives. At some point the country has registered significant economic developments depending on the political atmosphere at the time.

Notwithstanding, the political path has not been all that smooth but we must thank God for every constitutionally mandated government that has been exemplary in guiding the country forward while maintaining focus on national unity and institutional restructuring.

Every Ugandan can attest that God has been on our side for the 50 years of national growth and development.
Only God has kept and protected this nation from possible political crisis. So let’s jubilate but with caution and focus on doing the right things for this great country.

Everyone can make a valuable contribution that will forever change the status of your family, community and nation. Everyone is a stakeholder in the next 50 years of national strategic development.

We shall need a complete paradigm shift in our thinking and situational approach. We must shift from habitual cultural excuses to action-oriented, more inclusive and constructive programmes.

To some people jubilee is just another time of indulging in immoral acts. Jubilee is a time and season of fearing God and honouring Him at all aspects of life.

It is a time of loving and caring for one another, sharing one’s belongings with the poor and the disadvantaged in society. It is a season of family re-union and national healing. It is a season of human freedom which must be exercised in the right direction and with a right attitude.

All these attributes are clearly stated in the book of Leviticus Chapter 25: “Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants.

It shall be a jubilee for you; each one of you is to return to his family property and each to his own clan…Do not take advantage of each other, but fear God.
I am the Lord your God” (Lev 25: 10-17).
