JINJA Club golfer Grace Kasango took advantage of the absence of majority of Toro and Entebbe Club golfers to win the 8th edition of the Castle Lite Onito Memorial golf tournament at Jinja Club.

With all the regular contestants who have hitherto dominated Jinja events over the years away on national duty Kasango could not let slip.

The towering, 18-year old handicap 5 golfer returned 149 gross over two days to win his first major title since taking on the game in 2008.

“Jinja Club golfers had taken long without winning any tournament here so it really feels good to win this tournament,” Kasango who hit an eagle on the par 5 hole No.3 en-route to winning said.

Kasango who won a trophy and a fridge that he out-competed height wise, beat Kampala’s Joseph Mawejje and Abbey Bagalana to the top prize by 5 and 8 strokes respectively.

As has been the norm over the years, on top of sponsoring the golf tournament Nile Breweries who were the late Onito’s employers continued to help the Onito family by roofing their home in Mpumudde on top of a sh4m cash donation to the family.

“As we remember Onito and his son Yokwe’s legacy we want to see his family doing well, so it’s not going to be just a round of golf but we shall continue helping the family with such donations and permanent employment for some of the family members,” Timothy Kayondo the Castle Lite brand manager said.
