Best cricketers to get school bursaries

The Top three performers in the national Pepsi cricket week that kicked off on Wednesday August 6 at Lugogo, Kyambogo and Kings College Budo oval grounds will get school bursaries from the national cricket governing body (UCA).

The Top three performers in the national Pepsi cricket week that kicked off on Wednesday August 6 at Lugogo, Kyambogo and Kings College Budo oval grounds will get school bursaries from the national cricket governing body (UCA).


Henry Oketcho, the national cricket governing body (UCA) Development Manager,revealed this at Lugogo during the kick-off of the six days Pepsi cricket week.

“The Association will once again provide bursaries in the form of school fees for a year for the top 3 performers that will include, the best batsman, best bowler and man of series,” Oketcho stated.

Oketcho thanked Banks town Cricket Club that have supported the tournament with Equipment, T-shirts and Caps for the Participants.

After the tournament ,the top twenty four (24) performers will undergo a four day elite training camp as a core of developing the U-19 national team for the 2016 ICC World Cup qualifiers in February next year.

Kyambogo and Kings College Budo will climax with the selection of a core national team.

“After the conclusion of the elite training camp, a team of 14 players will be selected to take part in the schools team tour to Nairobi in September, where they will play several games to test and help sharpen their skills,” Oketcho said.

All participating schools will reside at Makerere College according to Oketcho.

The tournament that started on Friday has 122 Schools that emerged from the vigorous 42 qualifying regional competitions.

“This programme helps us build the foundation for other competitive levels such as U13, U15, U17 and U19 teams,” Oketcho added.

Notable in the participating schools are Mukono Parents, Kololo SSS, Aga Khan High School, Kyambogo College School, Kings College Budo Nyakasuura School, Masaka SSS, St. Leos College Kyegobe, Jinja SSS, St. James SSS, Busoga High School and Busoga College Mwiri.
