Former Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has been appointed new Kenya national team; Harambee Stars head coach.

Former Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has been appointed new Kenya national team; Harambee Stars head coach.
Williamson, who handled Cranes for five years before joining Kenyan side Gor Mahia FC, will start his tenure immediately after Cecafa Kagame Cup to be held in Rwanda. The Scot will be assisted by former international defender Musa Otieno while Simeon Mulama takes over team managers’ role.
Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya revealed to New Vision that they had settled on Williamson because ‘we needed a foreign coach who has been around for some time and understands Kenyan football.’
“We needed a coach who understands our game and Bobby Williamson is that kind of a coach. He (Williamson) has been around for long having been at the helm of Gor Mahia and we hope with our support, he will be able to bring required results,” FKF boss Nyamweya told New Vision.
Williamson has knowledge of African football having handled Uganda Cranes, whom he joined in 2008 replacing Csaba Laszlo, who had resigned.
Twice he took Uganda close to reaching final of African Cup of Nations finals - latest being in 2013 when they lost to Zambia on penalty shoot-outs before he was sacked. On July 5, 2013, he signed for Gor Mahia replacing Zdravko Logarusic and went on to win Kenyan Premier League title on first attempt.
On Sunday, Kenya FA disbanded entire technical bench comprising of coach Adel Amrouche, assistants James Nandwa, Ken Odhiambo and Technical Director Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee after the country failed to reach Group stage of African Cup of Nations qualifiers losing to Lesotho 1-0 on aggregate.
