Contrary to what increasingly looks like unfounded rumours of an impending break up, the dynamic duo of Ugandan musicians Radio and Weasel just keep moving from strength to strength (or so it would seem).

Hot on the duo’s front man Mozey Radio’s hit single Neera which is busting up the local airwaves, came the recent announcement that their 10-year ban on performances in the United Kingdom (UK) had been lifted.

As such, it was announced recently, that the boys will feature in the Ebonies musical drama Entunnunsi, to be staged at the Troxy Theatre in London and Drum Theatre in Birmingham, on August 23rd and 24th, respectively.

Now organisers of the 26th Annual Uganda North American Association (UNAA) Convention to take place at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine in San Diego, California, from Aug 29 – 31, 2014, have confirmed that the duo is expected to perform live at event after their UK tour.

The UNAA Convention is a three-day annual gathering of Ugandans and friends in the Diaspora held every Labour Day weekend in different cities in North America. With over 3,000 Ugandans from around the world attending it annually, the convention is the premier Ugandan networking event in the world.

It is attended by high level dignitaries from Uganda, the US and Canada; from both government and the private sector. Besides its business, education forums and political governance debates, it celebrates Uganda’s rich cultural heritage.

Hemdee Kiwanuka, the president of Network Showbiz, an independent California-based production and management company that has been contracted to handle production and entertainment at this year’s convention, says the duo will perform at the popular closing dinner on Sunday August 31.

“They will be the highlight of the weekend. We have arranged for them to perform alongside other Ugandan celebrated stars such as Rema Namakula, Toniks, and Gen Mega Dee. Network Showbiz will provide an international stage, sound and lighting never seen before at any of the past Uganda Conventions, to bolster their performance,” says Hemdee.

This is Radio and Weasel’s second time to perform at a UNAA Convention after the 2010 Convention in Washington DC.

Hemdee, whose team has over 20 years of managing artists, producing live music events, and recording music, says the Sunday Radio and Weasel show will be preceded by an equally enthralling show the previous Saturday night.
Codenamed the “Fire At The Hyatt” Supper Concert, the show will feature international music artists to balance out the act.

“The ‘Fire At The Hyatt’ Supper Concert will be held on Saturday evening after the boat cruise. We shall have the New Boyz, internationally renowned US-based artists famous for such hits as You’re A Jerk and Tie Me Down.  We also have Cali Swag District who are popular for their hit song Teach Me How To Doogie and Nigerian international Pop/R&B Sensation Meaku.

Also in the house will be Jamaica-born dancehall stars Tanto Metro & Devonte famous for their hit songs Everyone Falls In Love, I Got News For You and Give It To Her will be there. We will also have US-based Ugandan singer Rachel K to top it off,” Hemdee says

The weekend entertainment will kick off with the masquerade welcome party on Friday night.
Radio (born Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo) and Weasel (born Douglas Mayanja) started their musical careers as backup vocalists for their big brother Jose Chameleone.  In 2008 the duo broke away and formed the Goodlyfe Crew with which they broke into the limelight of the Ugandan music industry with the song "Nakudata."   They went on to release hit after hit including Lwaki Onumya, Zuena, Nyambura, Bread and Butter, and many others.

Radio and Weasel have also collaborated with many other artists including Rachel K, Blu*3, Omulangira Suuna, Toniks, rappers GNL Zamba and Keko and Zambia's General Ozzy.

The duo has won numerous awards including the Pam Awards, Buzz Teeniez Awards and was most recently nominated in the Best International Artist (Africa) category at the 2013 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
