UGANDA People’s Congress (UPC) party has vowed to oust the National Resistance Movement (NRM) from Usuk county seat.

UPC has fronted Cecilia Ayakoit as the party’s flag bearer in the Usuk county by-election.

Ayakoit will tassel it out with NRM’s Proscovia Oromait the daughter to the late MP Micheal Oromait among others.

The seat became vacant following the sudden death of Oramait. Ayakoit lost in the Katakwi district woman MP contest in the February 2011 national elections.

The party’s spokesperson Okello Lucima told journalists at the party’s weekly press briefing at the party headquarters Wednesday, that they have already devised strategies of wining the seat.

Lucima said the real contest in Usuk is going to be between NRM and UPC as the only parties with experience in governance of this country.

“UPC ruled this country twice and our legacies are known to everyone to see in the area. We believe we have a head start because of the policies we have,” he said.

Lucima said education had collapsed tremendously in Teso region under the NRM government. He also added that health and agriculture sectors were in shambles and needed to be rejuvenated.

He said they are going to use Usuk election as come back for UPC in the politics of this country.

Lucima urged other opposition parties to give them support since they are all fighting a common enemy.

“We have been supporting FDC and DP in the various by-elections. We think they should do the same since we are the strongest in the area,” he noted.
