The Parliamentary Police have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to bribe Eastern Uganda youth MP Peter Ogwang.

The Parliamentary Police have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to bribe Eastern Uganda youth MP Peter Ogwang. The Police identified the accused as Agnes Maria Namatovu.
According to Paul Kato commissioner of police attached to criminal investigation department Parliament of Uganda, Namatovu was arrested at central police station Kampala after she was handed over to Parliament police station by Ogwang.
“It is still a tricky case, it is only evidence that will bring it out,” said Kato. He added that Namatovu had an expired Identity card of the ministry of water and environment.
Speaking to Journalists earlier, upon the arrest of Namatovu, Ogwang said, she (Namatovu) had been following him since Saturday last week while he was in Entebbe for a retreat to convince him to draw evidence against some officials involved in misappropriation of funds in the prime ministers’ office.
“She called me on my private number which I don’t know where she got it from, and I told her that we would meet at parliament,” Ogwang said.
Ogwang added that; “she said we would not talk on phone and that she wanted to meet me physically and tell me about the deal saying we would make a lot of money out of it”.
Ogwang after receiving the women who was donning a blue blouse with her head covered handled her over for further investigations.
He was asked to make a formal statement to police regarding the matter to help police in its investigations.
“I want to know who sent her, and who gave her my confidential number this is aimed at killing parliamentary investigations,” Ogwang said.
He however did not specify how much the women was offering saying she had promised to offer as much money as possible as long as he provided the required documents.
Ogwang sits on the parliamentary committee on presidential affairs that is currently investigating misappropriation of funds in the prime minister’s office.
