The Ministry of Health has instituted a team to probe the death of a mother that occurred during caesarean section at Jinja hospital recently, officials have said.

The permanent secretary ministry of health, Asuman Lukwago has revealed that the probe committee consists of members from the clinical service department and members of the regulatory council.

Speaking to New Vision online, Dr Lukwago said that the team will investigate and analyse the incident critically and come up with recommendations.

He said that if investigations are through and some of the health workers are found to have been negligent, they will be punished according to the provision of the medical council regulation.

“It’s unfortunate that we lost a young mother who was at a tender age, yet it is our responsibility as medics and health workers to save people’s lives,” Lukwago said.

Hajara Namubiru died during child birth on suspicion that doctors neglected her.

This subsequently caused chaos at the hospital after news of her death emerged.

This prompted a mob to rough up Dr. Charles Barungi who was handling Namubiru in the theatre on allegations that he had asked for a bribe of sh700, 000 before handling the deceased.

As the chaos spread around the hospital with unruly crowds roughing up medical personnel, many removed their gowns to disguise their identity.

Namubiru’s death is among the several cases registered in the country resulting from negligence
