We are not poster children for patience. And yet we have waited four years for the Dark Knight Rises.

Since 2008, when we saw that last shot of Batman running into the shadows at the end of the Dark Knight we have been anticipating this. And it’s nally here.

Four years of FOMO have nally come to eruption. Gotham’ Batman is back.

Okay, for those who need to be shepherded into the class, let's do an intro and recap.

This is the third installment in a trilogy about a billionaire who uses high-tech gadgets and special body armour (It is body armour, not a “costume”) to fight criminals in the fictional US City of Gotham.

By “rebooting” the movie franchise, and treating it as an intense, deep-psyche, dark piece of work, director Christopher Nolan created one of the best movies of that year, one that some will argue has not been surpassed since.

Bruce Wayne, tortured by the memory of his parents’ murder, adapts ninja training and access to a martial weapons factory supervised by Morgan Freeman to become a vigilante known as the Batman.

Last time we saw him, he was being run out of town, vilified for his efforts to save it, after the maniac known as the Joker (Heath Ledger) had called him out into a battle that caused much destruction.

This synopsis does not even remotely capture how good this series of movies is.

From Batman Begins to the Dark Knight, this incarnation of Batman has consistently upended all expectations. Ask all those fans who have been spending this past week re-watching the two movies in anticipation of this third one.
