The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has said it legally acquired the land for the proposed sh30b movement house from the Uganda Lands Commission.

This follows accusation by the opposition that the NRM irregularly acquired the land under unclear circumstances to build its party headquarters.

The land in question is estimated to be 1.7acres. It is found along Nile Avenue plot 28, 30, 32, 34 and plot 36 Hannington road Kampala.

According to the Acting government chief whip Daudi Migereko, the said land was leased to the NRM government by the Uganda lands commission in March 31 2005.

"The agreement was dully executed and signed by the chairman and secretary Uganda lands commission. On the part of the NRM, the lease agreement Papers were signed by the chairman NRM, and secretary general NRM," Migereko told New Vision online.

Migereko who doubles as minister for lands, housing and urban development, noted that the NRM has owned the land since 2005 saying it had not been just  acquired as alleged by the opposition.

He said the allegations regarding the missing land documents for the movement house by shadow minister for lands and physical infrastructure Ssemujju Nganda are intended to frustrate the fundraising efforts for the project.

"I want to assure all Ugandans and NRM supporters that we have the land and they should support the efforts for building the Movement house," Migereko stated.

Recently, the NRM launched a fundraising campaign for the 27 storied building and collected Sh 2b for the project from some of the party members and well-wishers.
