A private security guard has been laid to rest after unidentified thugs strangled then drowned him in a swimming pool in Naguru, a Kampala suburb.

Desmus Wabwire, 30, a resident of Kataza Zone 6 in Nakawa division was attached to GKO Security company.

On the night of the attack and consequently his death, he was guarding a residential house being renovated on Plot 2 Katalemwa Bend road in Upper Naguru.

The assailants, who are still at large, ambushed and killed Wabwire that night. The under-renovation house belongs to NBH Properties, it is reported.

Wabwire’s lifeless body was found lying in the apartment’s swimming pool Saturday morning by his operations supervisor.

The supervisor had routinely come to the apartment at 7am to deploy another security guard for the day shift. When he found Wabwire dead, he immediately called the police to the crime scene, he said.

Chris Wandera, a relative of the deceased said on the fateful night, Wabwire left home ready for night deployment. But when he had not returned home by 11am the following day, an unusual situation, he contacted the security guard’s bosses.

And the ominous feeling around him would later hit hard at him when he walked into the company offices and was told Wabwire was dead.

That he had been killed by unknown thugs while on night duty.

Kiira road deputy Criminal Investigations Officer (CID), Gideon Kyalimpa said Wabwire was first strangled by the suspected thugs and then stripped him naked before drowning him in the pool.

According to Kyalimpa, the assailants stripped Wabirwe naked and drowned him to conceal any evidence.

The deceased’s mobile phone, wallet and wrist watch were taken. The unoccupied residence was not tampered with.

“The baton he [Wabwire] used for guarding was also found thrown in the flower garden,” Kyalimpa said.

Wabwire, who hailed from Dabani Village in Busia district was buried on Sunday by grief-stricken relatives and friends.

Police investigations into the murder are going on as the assailants remain at large.
