The trial of the two suspects charged with the 2010 murder of 18-month-old baby boy Kham Kakama, is to be delayed over inadequate funding to Nakawa Court in Kampala.

Kakama's body was discovered in a Kampala swamp on June 13 after he was kidnapped from his parents' home in the city suburb of Bugolobi on June 8.

The trial had been scheduled to start today for Brian Sajjabi, 24, and co-accused Mellon Nabaasa, 23 but principal state attorney Alice Komuhangi told court presided by Justice Faith Mwondha, that the High Court registrar had notified Nakawa Court that trial had to be halted due to inadequate funds.

Initially, there were three co-accused but on May 7 this year, key suspect Gordon Tumusiime,26, was handed a 60-year jail sentence after pleading guilty. The 30 years are for the count of murder, while the other 30 are for kidnap but to be served concurrently.

"I have received a copy of the letter authored by the registrar High Court to the effect that this court (Nakawa Court) is constrained by funds. In the circumstances, I request for guidance from this court on how trial will proceed,"Komuhangi said.
