Police has handed over the body of Cedrick Ziwa, one of the pupils of Leo’s Junior Primary School who died in a fire that gutted two dormitories.

The four year old pupil died with other four others who were sleeping in a different dormitory.

He was residing in Damian house from where he died alone while the rest died in Constance House.

According to the Assistant Inspector of Police and also the chief political commissar of Police, Asuman Mugenyi, Cedrick’s body was handed over to his relatives at Mulago city mortuary after carrying out DNA tests.

Mugenyi said Cedrick’s results easily matched those of his parents, although he was charred beyond recognition.

“We have carried out DNA tests on the five pairs of parents and since Ziwa was alone in a different dormitory it was a bit easier to identify him,” Mugenyi said.

He added that although the DNA process seems to be very slow, all parents will be given the bodies of their children before the end of Friday

Karim Senyonjo Cedrick’s grandfather applauded police towards its contribution in ensuring that all bodies of burnt pupils are handed over to their relatives.

“Am very grateful that police has helped us do the DNA test, transport the bodies and all the relatives of the deceased, “said Senyonjo.

The four year old Cedrick is expected to be laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Rakai District.
