The education state minister for higher education John Muyingo has warned that Soroti school of comprehensive nursing will collapse if the governing council continues being dormant.

The education state minister for higher education John Muyingo has warned that Soroti school of comprehensive nursing will collapse if the governing council continues being dormant.

“I have discovered that the governing council who are the mangers of this intuition has not been actively involved in the running of the school,” minister observed.

The minister said that issues of lack of qualified tutors, lack of staff houses and lack of computers was the role of the governing council to rise to the ministry so that an action is taken up.

“It’s evident that the governing council has not been meeting as proscribed by the constitution. They claimed that they didn’t have funds to enable them meet but this people are not supposed to be paid,” minister explained.

The minister who was on familiarization tour of high intuitions’ of learning in Teso compelled the governing council led by Dr. Philip Anyama to kick start quarterly meetings to ensure the institution issues are addressed on time.

A 41, year old institution has the enrollment of 231, students but it is faced with a challenge of adequate qualified tutors with only four full time qualified tutors.

According the principles report the institution has got out dated library books for students to use for carrying research.

Besides that the school principle Abio Aniceta Dramadri told the minister that the financial assistance grant of shs 1800 per student by government was little considering the rising commodity prices in the market.

“The subvention grant of shs 1800 is not enough budget per student per day for government students. It is really very small,” Dramadri said.

On the same day the minister also visited Uganda College of commerce in Soroti before he proceeded to Northern Uganda.
