Uganda mourns Saudi prince

Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has paid tribute to the Saudi Arabian Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud who died last week.

Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has paid tribute to the Saudi Arabian Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud who died last week.

"It is sad to lose a leader who touches the lives of many, not only his family but also the whole country," Mbabazi observed while meeting the Kingdom's Ambassador to Uganda, Dr Jamal Abdul Aziz Raffa at his residence.

Representing government, the Premier is one of the dignitaries who signed in a condolence book at the Embassy in Kololo mid this week.

Ambassador Raffa said he saw the deceased royal a few days before his death but he had appeared to be recuperating.

The 78-year-old Crown Prince who died in Geneva, Switzerland while receiving medical treatment was buried on Sunday in Mecca. 

Nayef, chosen as Crown Prince last October, was son of King Abdul Aziz.

The succession in Saudi Arabia still passes among the sons of former King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud who established the modern kingdom during his reign from 1932 to 1953.
