If you want a fun, fresh look, pull out one of your scarves and try something different. You can play with a scarf and make an old outfit look new. There are countless ways to accessorise with scarves. One of the most popular ways is to use them as a hair accessory, a perfect way to top off any outfit.

Sandra Namutamba, a fashion designer, says scarves can help hide a bad hair day. After the wind has blown your hair in all directions, a scarf stashed in a handbag can stylishly disguise the unkempt hair.

You can use a scarf to draw the eye to your waistline by adding a colourful scarf. Wear it at your natural waistline, a little higher for an empire waist look or slung low on your hip for a more casual look.

To achieve the look, wrap a long rectangular scarf around your waist and tie it in a bow in front or back. You can spread it out for a sash look or roll it up tight, twist two different colour scarves together and wrap them around your waist.

Tie a knot or bow in the front or back and loop a long rectangular scarf through the belt loops of your jeans or pants.
Tie a knot on the side and let the ends hang loose.

Dress up a jacket by folding a small scarf into a pocket square. Loop a thin scarf through a button hole and let it hang or tie it in a bow.
