Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has started World Cup preparations by naming a 30-man squad.
The squad that has 22 foreign-based players starts training at Namboole on Monday for the encounter against Angola's Palancas Negras.
Goalkeeper Posnet Omony who turns out for South African side Black Leopards and Bunamwaya defender Edward Ssali are some of the names that have bounced back on the team.
Releasing the names at the FUFA weekly press conference in Mengo Wednesday, Williamson stressed that invitations were made after close study of each of the players. “Omony has not only been very active lately, but also on form.”
Uganda will start off its campaign with an away tie in Luanda, Angola in a busy month that also has another World Cup qualifier against Senegal. June also has the Cranes hosting Congo Brazzaville in an Africa Cup of Nations return leg.
Angola have on their part lined up three high profile build-up matches against African champions Zambia, Macedonia and Cape Verde besides a camp in Portugula.
The full Cranes squad has Goalkeepers: Omony (Black Leopards), Denis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundown), Abel Dhaira (IBV Vestmannaeyjar), and Hamza Muwonge (Bunamwaya).
Defenders: Simeon Massa (URA), Denis Iguma (Victoria University), Isaac Isinde (St. George-Ethiopia), Henry Kalungi (Richmond kickers-USA), Godfrey Walusimbi (Bunamwaya), Hassan Wasswa (Kayseri Erciyesspor-Turkey), Joseph Ochaya (KCC), Habib Kavuma (APR-Rwanda), Edward Ssali (Bunamwaya), Joseph Owino (Azam-Tanzania) and team Captain Andrew Mwesigwa (Ordabasy FC- Kazahastan).
