WHEREAS salvation is a personal relationship between an individual and God, the questions continue to linger. Author, Josepha Jabo in her 2007 book: Clothed to Curse, where she chronicled Roger Mugisha’s underworld escapades raised her doubts and we are reliably informed that the two have never seen eye-to-eye.
Another colleague, who attended school with the “Shadow” right from Mugwanya Preparatory School, Kabojja through to St Mary’s Kisubi isn’t shocked if Roger backslid. “ For 13 years, we attended catholic schools under the brothers of Christian Instruction. I knew he was up to something when he came up in the first place and I’m not shocked if you told me he went back to the Roger of old,” he said.
Roger has openly fumed at some people who focus on his Christianity. “I have said a billion times, keep my faith out of this, I will get nasty....” he replied to a female journalist who prodded. “And for the zillionth time, I am not a pastor, I have never been ordained, please don’t push that button, focus on the issues at hand if you want to judge me, take God’s seat,” he told her With full picture evidence, Roger Mugisha was sighted making merry with the likes of Hellen Lukoma of the defunct HB Toxic towards Christmas last year.
At the launch of Nile Gold beer at Kabira Country Club’s pool side, Roger who was emcee held a glass of beer and asked, “can I taste?” Indeed, he did taste, but it was an excuse. He drunk throughout the function. At PAM Awards 2011, he was co-emcee with J Kazoora, some journalists say he took Club Pilsner, but was wary of camera flashes. Our reporter who accosted him at one incident where he was among a group of friends drinking alcohol at Kisementi was politely told by Roger that he “was having a private meeting.”
Mugisha, however, maintains he is still saved and says that the only reason he left Church was because some pastors were in a hurry to promote him with titles and turn him into a business. “I put church on hold because some pastors wanted to turn it into a business. Some pastors were in a hurry to promote me with titles, so I left church and people thought I backslid. I am in the wilderness now until my time comes,” he says.
He insists that he never shared his story to make money and maintains he was commanded then, by the voice that spoke to him that night. He maintains God is still doing things around him and when the time is right, he will start what he was called to do.
Who is Roger Mugisha
HE was born in Nsikye, a suburb of Mbarara town on Kikagate Road in Isingiro district. He dropped out of university at the height of FM radio invasion of Kampala. He became popular because of his infamous dancing group known to Kampalans
as “Shadows Angels” in early 2000. The twenty girls had become extremely famous for dancing seductively.
They would always get onto stage wearing skimpy shorts, stilettos and loose tops. Then they would go on to fondle, grope, spank and squeeze male patrons. They, however, split when their boss, Roger Mugisha, confessed that he had indeed been a devil-worshipper.
At the height of his trade, where they were popular in Kabalagala, Rock Gardens and Ntinda, Roger was very popular among the city tycoons who used to hire his group for private raunchy dances.
In the first week of March, 2003, Roger Mugisha surprised many of his fans as well as his clients; he went to Kasanga Miracle Centre, together with his girls aka Angels, denounced his trade. He was delivered from devil worshipping. He confessed of so many things.
At first many did not believe him, but he was eventually accepted by Christians. A month after he confessed his sin before Christians in Kansanga Miracle Centre, Roger Mugisha held a rally in Entebbe, where he repeatedly assured Christian faithful that he would never look back. He outlined his intentions of learning to preach the gospel from the likes of Joyce Meyer, one of the World’s richest televangelists.
Christians in Entebbe broke into ululation when he professed: “People are talking a lot of nonsense: That by becoming a born again I was targeting business in God’s Church. I will not back slide as they allege,” he said in 2003. I served Satan for 10 years since 1993. I could enter all nightclubs free of charge country-wide including Vogue, Silk and Ange Noir, but I can now afford to miss all that, At the time God knocked on my door I left many contracts where I was supposed to put up shows ranging from sh0.5m to sh1m.
I had to leave all this and join the creator,” Mugisha, who was hosted along with his decently-clad girls by Entebbe Miracle Centre as Pastor Aaron Mutebi, bragged. Mugisha did not stop at narrating his story, but also explained further how Satan kept pestering him to sleep with a serpent in order to get him a job before joining Sanyu FM. Mugisha says he refused to sleep with the serpent.
He said the devils had also asked him to immediately surrender the head of the baby he was expecting from his girlfriend, Sharon Mazowe. It was horrible and I rejected it,’ he testified. Mazowe gave birth weeks after his confession. They still maintain a steady relationship although she lives in London. She lives with the son in London, although Roger has been spotted with him in Kampala especially on the social circuits.
He was last seen with the son at a social network reunion, at Kampala Rugby Club last year. The handsome son, a carbon-copy
impressed with his Michael Jackson dance regimen, which Roger also became famous for in his Kisubi school days. Former Shadow Angels speak out However, one of the former Angels, Maureen Mbabazi, says that Roger Mugisha is still a regular Born-again Christian, often hosting fellowships at his Muyenga apartment. She says they are one big happy family and she is happy most of their prayers have been answered since they have found love and respect in society once again.
Roger, recently in a Facebook post, hinted on the weakness of flesh and temptation. “The more I strive to get close to you the more sinful I become, my sinful nature takes the upper hand always, and when I make no effort, I find myself close to you. Teach me how to love you Lord. I know there are many people like me who love God, but we always feel inadequate, I always let you down Lord, and yet I love you so much. Please turn your wrath away from my evil ways. Bless my friends this week, Amen.”
