For the last six years, you have been accustomed to by a system that prohibits all kinds of electronicgadgets apart from the calculator. If you had an iPod, it was hidden under your clothes so that it is not seen by the matron or warden. But as you join university, things will be different. You will need particular gadgets to make life easy.

The laptop
In most courses, it is compulsory to hand in typed coursework assignments. To avoid having to go the secretarial bureau each time you are given course work, you will need a laptop. Those who have been to university will tell you that your coursework is not safe at secretarial bureaus because it can easily get duplicated. Well, you might want to opt for a desktop computer, but remember that a laptop gives you the luxury of doing your work anywhere around campus. And when the long boring hours come, you can watch movies on your laptop.

Flash disk
This portable storage device costs very little. You can have your entire project on this device and some of the portable applications, games or music, if you have enough space. You can keep your work safe from computer crashes and power black outs. You will also need a flash disk to save your work when you have to take it for printing. Having a flash will also help you keep the projects that you do not want your course mates to see.

Digital camera
Perhaps your parents have not told you this, but university is probably the highlight of your youth.

So, you need to capture all the wonderful moments that university life has to offer. Ten years from now, you will want to look back and share the memories. If you do not take pictures, then you will have nothing to look at.

Alarm clock
At university, there is no bell, siren or warden to wake you up. Many times you will end up oversleeping. That is why you need the alarm clock to wake you up so that you get to class on time and you do not miss tests or exams.

You can also try using a clocky rolling alarm clock. Unlike any alarm clock this clock turns, runs and starts running around your room when turned off.

Smartphone
Today’s university student does not just need a mobile phone, but rather a smartphone.  You might be wondering, what exactly does “smartphone” actually mean?

A smartphone is a cell phone that is no longer limited to making voice calls. These phones offer advanced capabilities and are like mini-computers in the palm of your hands.

This has nothing to do with showing the rest of the students that you have swag. A smart phone is very useful for keeping up with campus news, friends and family. We all know that today’s generation needs social networking and the smartphone will come in handy.

Others
You will also need an umbrella for a rainy or scorching hot day. Do not forget a small radio to keep abreast with news and what is happening in the world.

You will also need a folder to carry your notebooks, a torch to use during times of load shedding and a sweater and heavy shoes for the rainy season
