THIS year’s edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) games will be hosted in Bujumbura-Burundi.
FEASSSA president Justus Mugisha confirmed Saturday that Bujumbura has officially been picked to host the games in September.
“Burundi is the host of the 2012 edition. They beat the rest of the bidders to the rights of hosting the games,” Mugisha said.
South Sudan and Tanzania were the other bidders but Mugisha said both countries had not shown readiness when the team of inspectors from the federation visited them.
The new comers South Sudan were the first country to forward the bid while Tanzania declined hosting last year’s edition at the 11th hour as the hosting rights were passed on to stand-by Uganda.
However, Mugisha said South Sudan and Tanzania will be given chance to host the 2013 and 2014 editions respectively on condition that they show readiness and keep sending teams to the games.
In last year’s edition in Mbarara-Uganda, Kenya dominated the event winning seven of the 11 medals but Uganda’s St. Mary’s Kitende beat fellow Ugandans Kibuli 3-0 to win the trophy for the sixth time in a row while Rwandan school Nyamasheki won the boys and girl handball as another Rwandan side Apapeki beat Kitende to win the boys’ Volleyball.
