UGANDA  men and women team beat Ghana and hosts Ethiopia respectively though  the result was not enough for the tide to change for them in the African round of the Thomas (men) and Uber  women)badminton Cup.

The tournament is a qualifier to the world Thomas and Uber Cup due in China in May and attracts only the champions of the respective category from each continent.

Despite the players complaining about the poor court surface which had a rough floor that could not allow easy movement, coupled with better opponents, each of the Ugandan team managed to pull a game back.

The men beat Ghana 5-0 while the women beat Ethiopia with the same margin.

However failing to win the other two games saw them fail to qualify for the semi-finals.

“They played very well though the matches were tough. They will have some rest Saturday and wait for the individual competition on Sunday. Already Ekiring has gone back to Netherlands,” said Coach Simon Mugabi, who is with the team in Addis Ababa.
