S.4 results released

The results of the 2011 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) were released on a hot Wednesday morning, with boys performing better than girls. 

The release, which was scheduled to take place last week, was called off since the examinations board was not yet ready.

A total of 273,157 candidates sat for Senior Four national examinations last year.

Of these, 107,977 were under the Universal Secondary Education.    

The education minister,  Jessica Alupo, said all the releases of results for national examinations have been made ‘timely to enable students to report to school on time’.

The minister was reportedly briefed about the outcome of the results by the national examinations students, whose results were released a fortnight ago, will report to school on Monday while those of Senior Five will report on February 20.

However, there are indications that the performance of Senior Four candidates is likely to improve, meaning that students will face a stiffer competition for Senior Five slots.

Unlike the previous years, candidates, who will have passed, will have a chance of enjoying free education in Senior Five.  
The education ministry has already selected 600 schools to roll out free A’ level education countrywide.

These schools, according to the ministry’s permanent secretary, Francis-Xavier Lubanga, will partly accommodate 63,575 students.

In total, 74,246 S4 leavers will in the next academic year have a chance to access free education in schools and other institutions.
