Former Rubaga South Member of Parliament, Susan Nampijja who was hacked over the weekend is steadily recovering at Case Hospital.

Medical workers and relatives Tuesday declared Nampijja’s life out of danger after she started responding to calls although she is weak and unable to talk.

Nampijja (34) was allegedly attacked on Saturday night by her estranged lover, one Geoffrey Mukisa who is also accused of cutting her on the head and injuring her skull. The assailant dumped in a nearby pit.

Two other people, including her niece, Shakira Namutebi and Harriet Kisaakye, a housemaid were also cut by the attackers in the same incident and remain admitted at the same hospital.

The hospital Public Relations Officer, Williams Probil said although Nampijja  and Namutebi were out of danger Kisaakye’s case was  still critical after sustaining  a deep cut on the head.

Vice President, Edward Ssekandi who  was among people who vaster Nampijja yesterday said, he was shocked by the incident and condemned the brutality used saying the assailant targeted taking away life.  “This was a criminal act intended to finish off the life of these people, but we pray that the police will zero on the attackers,” he said.

Other politicians at Case clinic were:  the leader of FDC, Col. Kizza Besigye, the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, MPs Ssemujju Nganda, Ssebuliba Mutumba, Rubaga chairperson Joyce Ssebugwawo, former Rubaga North MP Betty Kamya among others.

Who is Mukisa?

Geoffrey Mukisa also known as Uncle Jeff by close relatives is in his mid-30s. According to relatives, Mukisa, who hails from Iganga district, is said to have studied Civil Engineering at Makerere University where he met Nampijja.

Nampijja’s sister, Lillian Nakyanzi told New Vision that after University both Mukisa and Nampijja lived in a rented house in Makindye along Salaama Road before the ex-legislator joined politics.

Mukisa is said to have joined his lover’s political team and would distribute and pin posters as Nampijja hunted votes for the Rubaga South parliamentary seat.

Nakyanzi says after she became MP the couple shifted to Kitebi in Rubaga South but later Nampijja bought an unfinished house in Star Zone.

Nakyanzi says after she became MP the couple shifted to Kitebi in Rubaga South but later Nampijja bought an unfinished house in Star Zone.

“Nampijja wanted to hire a team to complete the construction but Uncle Jeff, since he had knowledge in construction work, he offered to do the job,” she said.

She said Mukisa was in charge of construction up to completion of the house. He also supervised the workers.

According to Nakyanzi,   Mukisa formed Jolis Construction Company and Engineering but it never took off. He is not known to have been in any kind of employment.

Nakyanzi said that Mukisa, who fathered a child with the former MP, fell out after he made several attempts to forge documents claiming ownership of part of her property including their home in Kitebi and the two houses in Makindye.

“After losing the parliamentary bid for Makindye East, Nampijja frequently travelled abroad which gave Mukisa a chance to forge documents including land titles to claim ownership,” she said.

“She bought the unfinished house in Kitebi and repaired it with my consent. She later acquired a loan under the parliamentary loan scheme and built two other houses in Makindye,” Lukyamuzi explained.

According to Nakyanzi, Nampijja was tipped off about the plans and the conflict worsened when Mukisa instead ordered her to leave ‘his house’.

Other sources alleged that Mukisa was thrown out of the house and his futile attempt to stab Nampijja. Mukisa then relocated to one of the houses in Makindye where Nakyanzi was staying and ordered her out.

Amidst the rift, Local Council leaders in Badongo Zone asked the couple to use the police to sort out their differences after failing to mediate between the two for several occasions.  Police sources reported that Mukisa was detained and later released on bond but police asked the couple to use the civil court to end their dispute.

Friends said Mukisa stayed with a sister at Gaba and at times would stay in a guest house.

Last evening Lukyamuzi said that Nampijja never formerly introduced her lover to the family and therefore ‘he does not recognize him’ apart from knowing as the father of his grandchild.

“My only interaction with him is when the man started claiming property of my daughter. We enabled her to create that property, this property was declared before the IGG in her own names, claiming it is open thuggery ,” he said.

“My niece lived with this man for a long time, he was humble and no one knew he was a threat,” said Nampijja’s untie, Eve Namagga .

She said Nampijja gave her copies of the agreements of the houses she bought and were registered in her names and was surprised that Mukisa started claiming ownership.
