Buffaloes 7 Pirates 19

Buffaloes dominated the second half but lacked the ability to execute moves leading them to a 19-7 defeat by Pirates in the Nile Special rugby league opening game at Kyadondo rugby ground on Friday.

Buffaloes that were trailing 19-0 by halftime regrouped and put Pirates on the receiving end through-out the forty minutes and only managed to get a try and a conversion through Philip Wokorach to end the game 19-7.

Pirates managed to score three tries through Denis Etucket, Marvin Odong and Jude Kirya while Anthony Kinene managed two conversions only.

“We lacked fitness, coupled with the fact that the majority of our boys are school put us on the on the defensive in the second half but it’s something we are going to work on,” Pirates Coach Godwin Kayangwe.

Buffaloes’ coach Tolbert Onyango attributed the defeat to lack of experience.

“We lost a number of players to Heathens and the boys we have, are not experienced enough to put up a good fight in the super eight league,” Onyango conceded honourably the defeat.

Buffaloes Wokorach who was named man of the match was much excited and promised to work harder for the bigger award.

The rugby continues next Saturday with four games on card.

Nile hosts Heathens in Jinja, Impis take Kobs at Makerere and Rhinos entertain Pirates while Buffaloes hosts Entebbe Mongers at Kyadondo Rugby club.
