Otunnu names new UPC executive, Kakonge party chairman

Uganda People’s Congress president (UPC) Dr. Olara Otunnu has again reshuffled his cabinet.

Uganda People’s Congress president (UPC) Dr. Olara Otunnu has again reshuffled his cabinet.

Dr. Moses Apiliga is the new National Vice chairperson. Apiliga has been the Vice chairperson for West Nile region replaces Otunnu also appointed Gideon Twinomugisha as the vice chairperson for South West region. Twinomugisha earlier served as the party’s coordinator for South West. He replaces Ndiwa Ndikora. 

Otunnu while addressing a weekly party press conference on Wednesday at Uganda House named David Innocent Nyote a city Advocate as the secretary for Information and Research and the party spokesperson. Nyote replaces Moses Nuwagaba.  The press conference was attended by the party Vice President Joseph Bbosa and other officials. 

Patrick Guzi Aroma takes over as the new National Youth leader. He replaces Cecilia Anyakot.  Anyakot resigned from her post last week.

Otunnu also unveiled to the public his new party chairman Prof. Edward Kakonge. Kakonge who said joined UPC in 1960 served for several years as a lecturer at Makerere University. He taught Bio chemistry and said has worked with the youth and now wants to mentor them in the party.

He (Kakonge) replaces Maj. Edward Rurangaranga who was sacked with a batch of other top party officials last month. 
Other officials that were shown the exit David Pulkol formerly the secretary for policy and national mobilization, John Odit (secretary general), Moses Nuwagaba (publicist secretary) and Robert Kanusu (press secretary).

Otunnu then accused the officials of contravening the party rules but they have hit back saying their sacking is illegal and a contravention of the new UPC party constitution of 2008. Pulkol said the UPC youth would challenge it in court.
