Singer Angela Katatumba is demanding sh150m from Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) for using her song titled let’s go green in a radio advert.
The singer who dragged ACCU to the commercial court maintains that ACCU never sought her permission before the advert was aired on various radio stations. This, she says affected her market since many of her fans found it provocative.
Katumba said she wants to set a trend in Uganda where artists have to be accorded due respect and not taken for a ride.
She added that despite the many calls she receives from high profile individuals requesting her to withdraw the matter from court; she will pursue it to the end.
“I was in my car then I heard the advert, I was infuriated and immediately contacted my lawyers who wrote them. I want sh150m, this is to set a trend that artists should be respected and not simply taken for a ride. It would have been actually cheaper for them if they had contacted me,” Katatumba said.
Meanwhile her father who doubles as the Pakistani Consul to Uganda Dr. Bonney M. Katatumba has appointed her to be the Managing Director of his Muyenga-based Hotel Diplomate.
Angela is the proprietor of for-you-Gulu NGO and let’s go green projects; which have made her a darling to various international NGO’s.
