CROWDS of born-again Christians from all over Uganda flocked Nakivubo Stadium on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the national night prayer convention, an annual event organised by Bishop David Kiganda, the senior pastor of the Mengo-Kisenyi based Christianity Focus Ministries.

The event which run under the theme Thy will be done, was part of the activities to celebrate the dawn of 2010. It attracted a mammoth crowd, which filled up the stadium.

Kiganda said the crowd was mobilised solely through 93 Kingdom FM, the church’s radio station, which was also launched at the same event.

An air of gratitude, optimism, victory and joy prevailed as Christians entered the New Year with even greater expectations.

Yes, Christians had a good reason to celebrate, even though 2009 had been a difficult year for them. Being alive in 2010 was God’s providence.

In his speech, Bishop David Kiganda called upon God to shower his blessings upon the country. He also prayed for the leaders of Kampala City, which he referred to as the heart of Uganda, “to act with prudence and wisdom.”

“We don’t want bad tendencies like prostitution and drug-abuse, during the New Year,” Kiganda prayed.

Also present at the event were international preachers. Pastors like Alex Mitala and Michael Mugerwa who were also present, prayed for prosperity for all the districts of Uganda.

Several musicians, who included Wilson Bugembe performed during the event.
The jubilant Christians also donated blood to re-affirm their commitment to the social concerns of the people.
