EDITOR—In Nabuta village in Seeta, it is a tradition not to have power during festive seasons! Our transformer normally blows up during such days and it will take not less that two months to have power back. This, of course, comes with a lot of pleading. In most cases, the voltage is very low and when it suddenly increases, people lose their electrical appliances.

We have not had power since the beginning of December! The transformer, which was brought as replacement, blew up a few minutes after being installed and no action has been taken. New consumers are getting onto the national grid all the time. We continue to receive power bills even without power yet the bills never change!

UMEME is always shifting blame of making losses to power theft by some consumers, forgetting that some of their employees are the biggest problem. Take for example when they are replacing three transformers in one village like Nabuta within one month and all of them have blown up! How much does the company lose?

Remember this happens in other places as well. We thought a call away is enough for UMEME to act and that is the reason the company provides the toll-free hotline.
One wonders why the Government was in a hurry to privatise the energy sector! Is UMEME better than UEB?
