The newly-created district of Buikwe has acquired land for the construction of its headquarters, local leaders have said.

The leaders, led by the patron of the district steering committee, Norman Muwulize, disclosed that the district had acquired 23 acres of land.

The members told the press last week at Buikwe sub-county headquarters that the construction of the district offices would kick off immediately after the district starts operating.

Buikwe is among the seven newly-created districts, which are waiting to be gazetted.

Muwulize said in the meantime, the district will be using the sub-county headquarters as the main office.

Meanwhile, three people have expressed interest in the district chairperson seat.

The three, who are councillors on the Mukono district council, are Livingstone Ziwa, Harriet Nankabirwa and Matthias Kigongo.

Elections for the district interim leadership are expected to take place early this year.
