VISION Voice, Vision Group’s radio station, has unveiled a programme line-up re-tailored to suit the lifestyles of its listeners and increase the station’s ever-growing public appeal.

The Vision Group advertising manager, Godfrey Mulengi, says: “One of the key success factors at Vision Group is that we are constantly in touch and in tune with our audiences. For the last two years, we have been working closely with the market and Vision Voice has positioned as a unique radio, appealing to upstream society.”

According to Mulengi, this follows a recent in-depth market research by the company, which has provided the basis and confidence of the station’s restructuring.

Vision Voice is a subsidiary of the Vision Group multimedia company with five newspapers, including Uganda’s leading daily publication, The New Vision, five radio stations, a TV station, four magazines and an online division.

The radio’s programme director, Bill Tibingana, says: “Research helped us profile our target audience to create easy listening for them during the day as they perform their duties. Before leaving home in the morning and as they return home in the evenings, they will have more time to participate in the station’s activities at their convenience.”

Early Edition crew

In the station’s new programme menu, Tibingana says the breakfast show Early Edition now brings on board new anchors Siima Sabiiti and Ken Katuramu who join Ernest Wasake.

Katuramu brings a diverse radio experience to the team. He is unpredictable, controversial, popular with the ladies and well-informed.
Siima maintains sanity with a decent mind, responsible attitude and charming voice.

The two match perfectly with Wasake’s witty, outspoken, humourous, no-holds-barred personality. Sabiti trained in broadcast in the UK and attained exposure in voice-overs for television and radio documentaries for four years before she joined radio.

Katuramu has nearly three years of radio experience, having previously worked with Touch FM, Capital FM and Sanyu FM before joining Vision Voice. Wasake is a political science graduate from Makerere. His career in radio spans five years, having been at Touch FM and Radio One.

Yvvone Koreta

Koreta now moves from the breakfast show to present The Magazine Show which will now run from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Yvonne’s outgoing character, entertaining, soft, calm yet firm voice, suits the information and entertainment-driven show. Koreta replaces Sophie Aniku who moves to the V-Drive from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. She has a degree in Information Technology from Makerere University. Her voice has been on radio since December 2003.

Sophie Aniku

Aniku is a suave, urban socialite who is aware of what is going on in the city. She is intelligent with a global radio experience and charming voice. She studied corporate communications from California, US. Her first exposure to radio was in commercial voice-overs. She also has experience in media management and has been at Power FM.

Sam Ouga

Ouga moves to present the late night show, Between the Sheets. His laidback, calm, mature and sensitive personality elicits listeners to confide in him on issues affecting their personal lives.

He is a mass communication graduate from Makerere. He started radio in 1999. Over the years, he has been involved in radio production as well as radio presenting. He has worked on Voice of Teso, Spirit Network of radios, Radio Uganda, Touch FM as well as Power FM.

Paul Busharizi

The New Vision Business editor, Paul Busharizi, remains the talkshow host to discuss topical issues in society.
He is a seasoned journalist and business editor of The New Vision. He was one of the founding panellists of the Andrew Mwenda Live talk show on the then Monitor FM in 2001. He holds a degree in psychology from Makerere University.

Other transformations will include more interactive outdoor promotions covering sports events, more cash prize give-aways to involve listeners more in the station’s programmes.

According to the Vision Voice news editor Joshua Kyalimpa, the radio offers up-to-the-minute news to listeners, with a formidable news team. “We have news at every top of the hour, and news briefs at every half hour. We have lunchtime news briefing, which is a wrap up of the news from morning to lunch time. We also have current affairs under the evening programme, Daily Briefing. It is a programme with analysis of news with features, and profiles of newsmakers.”
The radio station will soon be linked countrywide to syndicate programming to its sister stations across the country.

Mulengi says in terms of return on investment, Vision Voice is the most perfect choice for advertisers who want to reach audience that are influential in decision and policy-making.

“Vision Voice is a functional information-driven radio station. The information is delivered in a cool and entertaining way. We deliver a wide scale of information useful in career, business, home management and education,” Mulengi says.
