Kyanjo’s call for war is irresponsible, inconsistent and immoral

I commend The New Vision for pointing out that Hussein Kyanjo’s agitation for war is irresponsible, inconsistent and wrong. The MP is so dead set on shooting people to get federo it has become embarrassing! Not only is Kyanjo’s call irresponsible, inconsistent and wrong, it is also immoral.
The likes of Kyanjo can shout on radios, at conferences and in newspapers preaching bitterness and espousing hatred but they cannot even lead a riot. The young men who follow them simply go and get tear-gassed, beaten, arrested and not even bailed. Because of the absence of the leaders, demonstrations in this country are taken over by criminal gangs whose objective is to loot. If Kyanjo can’t even lead rioting youth, why is he promising war?
If he won’t even risk his fat parliamentary salary and Government car, why is he asking young people to risk their lives and limbs? All the sound and fury seems but the posturing of cowards whose bold talk produces no action and signifies nothing.
We have been here before. This country is soaked with the blood of its citizens! Until very recently, war displaced many of our people. We have seen bodies flowing on our lakes. We have taken tourists to see the skulls of our people. War we know is not romantic.
Anybody in 2010 asking Ugandans to shoot each other does not love this country or his community. Kyanjo, please rethink your cry for blood to once again flow on our streets. A great preacher and pacifist once said: “The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.â€
